The link between autism and DMSA

IAS News 6 December 2012 | 2 Comments

According to a study carried out by researchers in Germany and Egypt there have been signs of improvement in children suffering with autism after starting a chelating routine using DMSA. The results of the study showed a decrease in behaviors typically seen in those suffering from autism, such as improvements with both verbal and nonverbal communication, taste, smell and touch. Also their ability to relate to other people and adapting to change was increased. The conclusion drawn from this was that chelation using DMSA has a beneficial effect on autistic patients.

Another study found that DMSA increased the levels of lead, tin and bismuth that were excreted by the body during chelation, as well as thallium, mercury, antimony and tungsten. It was also seen that DMSA could regulate the levels of Glutathione in the body which has been found extremely useful in chelating toxic metals from the body. Those suffering from autism can often experience difficulties in excreting heavy metals from the body in the same way those who do not suffer do, which is why it is important to look into new ways to help this process along.

However it has been suggested that long term use of any DMSA products, may have side effects, which is why Zeolite or Detox Pro which can be found in our broad range of chelating products may be of use. Also studies generally tend to be over short terms, and detoxing to get the best results, needs to be done over several years to see true results.

It is for this reason that long term oral detox is suggested, Dr Garry Gordon, has a range of products specifically aimed at such. Zeolite, hi-doses of vitamin C, Beyond Fiber, Organic Best of Greens and Detox Pro are all suggested routes for chelating the heavy metals out of the body.
